Why do hair straightners start to smell when they heat up?

because it drives me mad..it stinks...and i dont like it!! :(Why do hair straightners start to smell when they heat up?
i think its the plastic that smells, dont worry, it wears off.Why do hair straightners start to smell when they heat up?
a new straightner will smell because it has a little coating on it... they heat up soo much that that is what the smell it... then once you start to use it, depending on if you use products, they might get more of a build up on them so thats what the smell is too.. wash it with a wet towel regularly and it will help.. but its the heat that makes them smell as well so it wont compleatly go away
probably burning the product left on the plates from when you used it last.... maybe
Its just the dust particles burning!Nothing to worry about lol.
Well it probably smells when it heats up because the greese from your hair is one it from last time.
my ghd,s the same think it,s just residue from styling product .i just wipe mine with a damp cloth every so often and the smell is gone.
if i have product on my hair before i use my straighteners that can make them smell a bit! wait till they're cold and wipe them johnsons baby wipe and dont use them till they're dry again
it is the sulphur in your hair burning onto your straighteners. i wouldnt worry about it as very hot straighteners do this. if you would like to prevent this smell sticking to your hair (and prevent split ends at the same time)use a protective product before straightening.
if you use hair products on your hair before straightening it .... it may be them reacting with the heat to cause the smell .... make sure you clean your striahgteners properly everytime you use them and try to avoid hair products as much as you can. if you dont use hair products and your straighteners are clean then i dont know they are probably rubbish ones !
They smell, because of the heat and the products/small particles of your hair and scalp that are fused to the heated plates!
wipe clean for the irons n if u dun wanna it to smell use it with loreal hair straightening lotion..it smells nicer n it lasts longer n it kips ur hair from goin burnin
in that case you should have taken them back to the store cos mine have never smelt
it's usually the build up/ debrey from the hair, such as shampoo, conditioner, grease and the like burning on the plate.
Get some other good product.

Straightening the hair using ionic straightner is not good for ur hair while u use frequently. To avoid this go for Japanese straightening, i think that will be better and u can prevent ur hair without any smell, stink and damage..
you need to clean them you plonker as its dust etc burning
it starts to smell because it has a reaction to the hair grease already on the straightener.it is basically burning the grease
perhaps coz there's still some hair product left on them. to clean them, when they are cool and not plugged in, wipe them down with a damp cloth. this should work, it does for me!!

Good luck :D
mine don't (GHD)
Oh dear!!Mine dont do that so maybe there is something wrong with yours or there is a bit of trapped hair in then somewhere and thats whats burning!!Have a check!!When they are off though of course x
It's actually your hair. When you straighten bits of hair occasionally get trapped (or even melt!) onto the irons.
