Using british hair straightners in USA?

hey guys, irecently went to America and used an adapter for my hair straightners, problem was they didnt heat up although they turned on, could this be because there is a diff voltage over there, than the UK? or maybe a problem with the adapter?

big thanks to anyone who answers :)Using british hair straightners in USA?
It is most likely that they didn't heat up because of the voltage difference.

The adaptors are very basic devices that simply replace one set of terminals with another. There is little to go wrong with the adaptor.

Unless the hair straighteners were dual voltage, the problem you would expect to experience is lack of heat.

The straighteners should have a voltage plate on them somewhere, often embossed into the plastic. Check what voltage it states.

It may say 220 - 240V, or 110 - 240V.

If the latter, they should work in the US. If the former, then they will not work properly, if at all.
